Child Support and Section 7 Expenses
Children need financial support from their parents – and they have a legal right to it. When parents separate or divorce, they should try to agree on the amount of child support. If they ask a court to decide, the court will use established guidelines to determine child support payments.
Who pays child support, how much they pay and for how long are only a few issues that need to be worked out between the parties.
Section 7 expenses are costs incurred for the benefit of the child, that are not generally covered by the monthly child support payments. Example of Section 7 expenses are daycare, medical expenses, dental expenses, post secondary education costs, etc…
I will assist my client to determine the appropriate amount of child support to be paid.
I will also assist my client to determine what constitutes a Section 7 expense, how much each party should pay toward the determined expense and lastly, the duration for which the expense needs to be paid.
